Shakespeare-After-Hours

September 26 – November 16, 2016

An opportunity for high school students to explore William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night as they tread the boards. They will encounter a world where servants become masters, fools become wise, ‘wise’ become fools, and the only constant is love.

Summer, 2016

The 2016 Season took 20 students and six chaperones to Ashland, Oregon, home of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the oldest Shakespeare Festival in North America. They saw seven world-class plays and discuss the works with the directors. They took classes in acting, stage combat, and Renaissance dance and music, while documenting this golden opportunity.

One of the plays they saw was William Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale. Once back in Wyoming, the young company re-staged The Winter’s Tale to perform for audiences in August and September.

The tale goes, King Leontes is blessed with a beautiful queen, a son, and a baby daughter on the way, but he loses them all when his mind becomes poisoned by jealousy. During the bleak spiritual winter that follows, faithful friends and a divine oracle slowly lead him back to sanity and a glorious reunion with those he lost.

We are so grateful to you for these opportunities [my daughter] has had through your workshops to grow … Last year she wrote an essay and then prepared a speech for the 3rd grade assembly. On the morning of the speech, I asked her if she wanted to practice it with me, and she very confidently said, ‘No Mom, I do Shakespeare, I got this!’
