History

Wyoming Shakespeare Festival Company, WSFC, was organized in 1999 and began producing classical theatre in Wyoming in 2000. WSFC is a private, non-profit corporation recognized under Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS Code as a tax-exempt charitable organization and registered with the Wyoming Secretary of State.

WSFC was founded with the dual purposes of providing experience for Wyoming theatre majors and exposure to Shakespeare’s plays for Wyoming audiences. Diane Springford, who co-founded WSFC with Hugh Dignon, currently serves as Artistic Director. Thirty to fifty actors are engaged in WSFC’s productions in a typical year. They perform for an audience of several thousand annually. Their education outreach programs involve hundreds of students each year. The Company is directed by a six member Board of Trustees dedicated to supporting and expanding the arts, especially in Wyoming.

WSFC focuses on full length productions by Renaissance as well as contemporary playwrights, operates the Summer Shakespeare Theatre Academy and provides customized classes and workshops through the school systems for actors, technicians and students of all ages.

WSFC has developed cherished operating partnerships with a number of other Wyoming organizations in order to extend our mission throughout the state. These include the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens, ARTCORE in Casper, the Fremont County Library, Gillette College and Central Wyoming College, Community Fine Arts Center in Rock Springs, The Honor Farm in Riverton, The Dubois Museum, The Pinedale Fine Arts Council and the Wyoming Arts Council.
